About the Behavior Analyst
Dr. Karina Poirier is the founder of the Center for Social Cognition. Her current research includes the role of social interaction-based treatment for improving both theory of mind and executive function in children with autism. She is the developer of the Social Intentional Method (SIM), a developmentally based curriculum program that views the human development as an interrelated process. SIM combines the theories of applied behavior analysis and verbal mediation to alter behavior and maintain motivation. The focus of teaching is to help the individual develop the ability to successfully monitor own behavior and performance and eventually becomes an active participant in social interaction. The ultimate goal is for the individual to transition from extrinsic reinforcement to self-reinforcement.
Dr. Poirier clinical practice is devoted to providing outstanding one-to-one and group therapy that improves social outcomes for individuals with Autism, ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and related disorders. She holds high standards for her practice, high expectations of each child, and confidence in her ability to advance the overall development of each child.
